Blessing Children on Shabbat

On shabbat we tap into a divine energy and elevate ourselves from the other six days of the week.

As a part of this we have a unique opportunity to bless our children and grandchildren.

We whisper these words to them with great intention - for good health, joyful years, a life of meaning. We allow ourselves a moment to feel into the awe we experienced at their birth, the blessing of their presence in our lives. It is a precious minute filled with pure love, gratitude and surrender. It takes us away from the chaos of the week and the overwhelm of everyday challenges, and pivots us to focus on the most essential of hopes we have for our beloveds.

On Friday night take a quiet moment with your child or grandchild and utter these lines. Feel free to add any blessings of your own. Allow them to feel the love and protective energy of your words and prayers.

May Hashem bless you and watch over you.

May Hashem cause His countenance to shine on you and be gracious to you.

May Hashem raise His countenance toward you and grant you peace.

(FOR A SON) May G‑d make you like Ephraim and Menasseh.

(FOR A DAUGHTER) May G‑d make you like Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah.
